after five years, i never thought i would see one of my favourite groups ハルカリ / HALCALI live, especially in the united states! i was so lucky to see them, not only for free, but their first new york performance (01.06.2008)! more exciting? i also got to meet them, and get my picture taken with them! mii and i got there about an hour before they went on stage, wandered around and ended up seeing haruka behind the stage. i was really shy, but wanted to say hello, so i called her name and she came over! she ran and also got yukari and we took a picture. i was really flustered and unprepared to actually meet them so i didn’t say much, just that i really loved their music, style and good luck! looking back i wish i would have mentioned the korean birthday cake. :D they were both very sweet and gracious! soon after, mii and i decided to head to the stage to try to get up front for pictures and video…unfortunately i thought all of the acts ahead of halcali were atrocious, so the wait seemed interminable! the concert was being hosted by sandra endo who ended up having to stall for time, and she mentioned she was talking to halcali backstage and asked them about their music style…”are you like tlc or salt ‘n’ pepa?” @_@.

when the girls came out they looked beautiful and sounded great (wardrobe provided by candy stripper!) and they sang some older singles (though two appear on their new album)! we recorded the first three, and i was so happy when they started “ギリギリ・サーフライダー!” i sang along (they also initiated some sing-alongs) and yukari noticed XD. also, i always LOVED the song “sister ship” and never understood why it was a b-side (i thought it was better than the a-side!) and wished there would be a video for it, but even better, they performed it! before they left the stage they were given a quick interview (inspiration, breakthrough in america) with twin translators. afterwards, they were still signing autographs and posing for photos, i was able to say, “good show,” but they were crunched for time and had a lot of people excited to meet them!

i am so happy to have met them and seen their first ny performance- it was definitely one of the best days EVER. i encourage everyone, in europe, if you have the chance, GO SEE THEM! they’re fantastic live, great energy! here are some pictures mii and i took, and i will upload video later. (i ask that you please do not repost or hotlink pictures without permission, thank you!) lastly, this was the setlist:
